IIT-Bombay researchers prepare smart stethoscope, doctors will be able to hear the chest voice of corona infected from afar, see signals on the phone
Higher education institutions like IITs in the country are continuously making new innovations to deal with corona. Recently, the IIT-Bombay team has developed a smart stethoscope. With the help of this, the sound of the chest of corona infected can be heard and recorded remotely. The advantage would be to save doctors from being infected. The smart stethoscope will reach the doctor with the help of the patient's chest oscillated (auscultated) sound and data Bluetooth, which will not require them to go close to the patients.
IIT-Bombay gets patent for device
The IIT-Bombay team has also received a patent for this device. It will record the patient's oskalated sound and store it as a health record. It can also be shared with other doctors to take analysis and followup.
Startup 'Agedevice' designed it
The startup ' Aydevice ', powered by IIT Technology Business Incubator, has prepared it. The team has recently sent a thousand stethoscopes to various hospitals and health care centres across the country. It has been prepared with clinical input from doctors of Reliance Hospital and PD Hinduja Hospital.
One of the team's developers said that corona infected have a lot of difficulty breathing. So far, doctors were using traditional stethoscopes to hear the chest sounds of the infected, such as wheezing and cracks, which changes with the disease. He further said that the likelihood of doctors being infected increases considerably while treating them. Recently, many cases of infected doctors and health workers have also surfaced.
How smart stethoscope will work
Giving information about the smart stethoscope, Adarsh said that it has a tube that is connected to two earpieces. This tube transmits the sound of the body by removing the sound of the background.
He explained that the second important thing is that this smart stethoscope filters and amplifys many sounds and converts them into electronic signals. This sound can be amplified even further to hear it clearly.
The signal can be seen on smartphones and laptops as phonocardiogram. However, the capabilities of the traditional stethoscope are quite limited. Neither the voice can be recorded nor can they be shared with anyone. It is not possible to visualize it, nor is it possible to identify abnormalities by looking at the graph.
